# Billing

Prepaid, by the hour, with a 1-hour minimum, and a breaker that stops machines before you owe anything.

## Prepaid, by the hour

Add funds first; rentals spend the balance one hour at a time.

- Renting charges the **first hour** at once. Every rental is billed **at least one hour**.
- Each later hour is charged **as it begins**. A started hour counts in full.
- The rate is **locked** when you rent, whatever the market does later.
- Nothing is charged after a machine's removal time.
- A machine that fails before it ever runs gets its charges back.

## Adding funds

| Method | How | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Card, Link or Apple Pay | Stripe's payment page, from **Billing** | $5 to $5,000 per payment |
| Bank transfer | Request it on **Billing**; we send the details | Credited when it arrives |
| Auto-recharge | A saved card or Link tops the balance up below a threshold | At most 5 a day, 10 minutes apart |

Tick **Save it for auto-recharge** when you pay to turn auto-recharge on. A declined auto-recharge turns itself off and says why.

## When the balance runs out

Arrakis never lends. Before each hour it checks the balance:

1. If a machine's next hour can't be paid (and auto-recharge can't top up), **that machine stops**.
2. Rentals **pause**, and your other machines stop when the hour they already paid for ends.
3. Add funds and rentals **open again** by themselves.

The console shows when the money runs out while it still can, so you can add funds first. Volumes are never touched.

## Stop everything

**Stop everything** (on Instances or Billing) stops every machine now and pauses rentals until you resume them. Use it for an agent that won't stop, or a bill you didn't expect.

## Refunds and disputes

Refunds and disputes come back through Stripe and take the money off the balance. A disputed payment also puts the account on hold.
